How to Vote

March 2nd, 2006

If you are a registered voter of Orleans Parish who has been displaced as a result of Hurricane Katrina you are still eligible to vote if you have not registered to vote in another parish or state.

Use the Where to Vote Locator to find out where to vote if you will be voting in New Orleans on April 22.

There are presently three ways to vote in Louisiana: (1) Absentee Ballot by Mail, (2) early voting in person in the Registrar of Voters, and (3) in person at the polling place on Election Day.

The Absentee Ballot by Mail request and Displaced Voter Affidavit must be returned to the Orleans Parish Registrar of Voters office at City Hall, 1300 Perdido Street, Room 1W23, New Orleans, Louisiana 70112-2117 no later than April 18. An absentee ballot will then be mailed to you. Your completed Absentee Ballot must be received at the Registrar of Voters Office no later than April 21.

Early Voting will take place 8:30-4:30 Monday through Thursday April 10-13 and 8:30-4:30 on Saturday April 15 at the offices of the Registrar of Voters in the parishes of Orleans, Caddo, Calcasieu, East Baton Rouge, Jefferson, Lafayette, Orleans, Ouachita, Rapides, St. Tammany, Tangipahoa and Terrebonne.

To check your current registration status, register to vote, or vote, please contact the Orleans Parish Registrar of Voters or the Louisiana Secretary of State Elections Division by email at elections@sos.louisiana.gov or at 1-800-883-2805.
